A Father's Wish

Do you ever wonder what our Heavenly Father would want for Father’s Day? I mean, really? Do you ever picture Him up in Heaven and think, I wonder what He thinks of all this?

It truly has led me to dive into scripture, and I am reminded of just how good He is. You really can get to know the heart of God by simply opening the book He wrote to all of us. The Bible has His thoughts, His commandments, His desires for His beloved children (all of us).

As I think about this Father’s Day, I wanted to look and see what God said to Dads. What is His desire for the Dads?

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Proverbs 13:24

Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.

He calls us to teach our children His commandments and lovingly discipline them. They need to know their boundaries for their own safety. It would be like us driving on the side of a mountain with no guardrails….it’s not safe and we will likely fall.

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

God is all about the end game - eternal life with him. He encourages fathers, through His word, to be encouraging, comforting, and urging their children to live lives that glorify God.

Deuteronomy 1:29-31

29 Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

There is no doubt that God is the most loving, caring Father of all. And He calls men to love their sons and daughters in the same way, reflective of how He loves, how He protects, and through His courage.

Father and Daughter

I have known so many incredible Fathers in my life and I have known some not-so-great ones. And what I do know is that no matter who your father is here on earth, there is a Heavenly Father who is perfect and loving. Someone who knows your days ahead and is awaiting you with open arms.

So share this with a Dad you love and thank him for leading you with courage, strength, and wisdom, as he walks by faith and leads with love.
